About Sacha Runa

Our Story

A Little About Us

In 1972, the first Indillama families left their communities in search of better opportunities for our families. They settled along the Indillama River. Their first project was to build a school in order to give future generations a home and a future. Our grandparents laid the foundation for Sacha Runa.

Philosophy

Our Mission

Encourage environmental awareness of the environment without neglecting culture, and provide a livelihood for the Kichwa of the Indillama River by promoting sustainable ecotourism.

Vision

Our Goal

To be a leading community in community tourism, promoting sustainable development and good environmental practices that allow us to become a tourist destination of excellence with international recognition.

Lodging

Our cabins are modeled after traditional Kichwa homes and built with environmentally friendly materials from the area with the intention of being in harmony with nature. By recreating the natural feel, we hope to give you an authentic an unforgettable experience in Yasuni National Park.

Guides

All of our guides are licensed by the Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Environment of Ecuador and have been trained in group management and first aid. They are fully knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the area as well as bilingual in English and Spanish.

Restaurant

The restaurant is a large rustic building with open windows. Our skilled chefs create both traditional Ecuadorian and international cuisines that will delight the palate. The majority of food served at the eco-lodge is grown by the farmers of the community.

Transportation

To provide a good service, Sacha Runa owns a 16-pax outboard motorized canoe, with reclining seats. Our canoe comes equipped with an overhead awning and open sides to allow you an unimpeded view of the jungle during the journey to and from Sacha Runa. In case of rain, plastic siding can be pulled down to keep our guests dry.
